Hat Show Katrina Benefit Margaret's Appreciation

Saturday Singin in the Park

Saturday, Aug.5, musicians and singers from Wake, Pitt, Lee, Johnston, Nash, Wilson, Vance and surrounding counties  filled the town of Wendell, NC with glorious sounds of traditional gospel music. This Saturday’s Singin in the Park was the biggest ever! It was orchestrated  to share and preserve a rich fragment of gospel music that is vastly being disregarded by masses of gospel artist for a more economically commercial style of music. SATURDAY we enjoyed the music that brought us over!

The afternoon actually started at 3:15 and continued nonstop til 8:10 pm in downtown Wendell’s Asheton Town Square Park. Our Awesome God held back the rain and kissed us throughout the afternoon went gentle breezes and billowing shade trees. A crowd of 200+ consisting of Gospel artist, traditional gospel enthusiast, followers, residents and community church members gathered and blessed God back with songs of praise and shouts of joy throughout the evening at the Singin in the Park! The concert was free to the public and all in the park were treated to 15 min. serenades from the:

The Mighty Golden Bells and The Kingdom’s Heir, Raleigh

The Wings of Faith and The Sounds of Joy, Wake Forest

The Spiritual Entertainers, Oxford

The Jr. Voices of Christ, The Soul Revivors, Rev. King & G H Gospel Singers, Zebulon

The Traveling Stars, Pittsboro

Greater Vision, Lillington

Men After God’s Own Heart, Wilson

Men  of  ZionGreenville

along with The Joy Sisters, Wilson

All of the groups were wonderful and unselfishly gave their time and gifts back to God!. Promoters were in attendance from Raleigh-Frances Malone, Eunice Wilkerson Evans-Durham, Rod Lewis-Wilson, Arnita Miles-Oxford, Rocky Mt. and of course “We CARE”. “Baby Boy” of WNCU, Durham was all over the place, collecting group projects for airplay in Durham and doing a mighty fine job assisting MC Bobby Sutton of Eagle Rock Christian Church, Wendell on stage.

Children in the park were given “Back to School” supplies donated by sponsors, residents, friends and “We CARE” members.

Everyone is still raving about the great time we had in the park and the “We CARE” organization is appreciative to all that gathered with us to lift our blessed Savior up and the many hands and minds that pitched in to promote this great event.

Singin in the Park is a “Strengthening the Family Event” organized by The “We CARE” Saturday Morning Gospel Broadcast,  a self supported broadcast that is aired Sat. mornings at 9:00 on WAUG St. Augustine College’s radio station. St. Augustine’s College is one of Raleigh’s Historically Black Colleges & Universities. The “We CARE” Saturday Morning Gospel Broadcast sponsors “Strengthening the Family Events” throughout the year in an effort to provide positive community events that encourage family togetherness and attendance. The charge is to orchestrate  events that appeal to all ages in an effort  that families are presented the opportunity to enjoy these activities free or for a minimal cost .

The “We CARE” mission is to preserve and share our Black Gospel Quartet Music Ministry with others, so that  it will remain alive and fruitful. Our extended mission is to see that this important segment of our culture continues to thrive in a world that is ever changing. We ask that you join us in taking our mission to higher heights and deeper depths.

A very special thank you to everyone that assisted us on this mission in the park, Sat. Aug. 5th!

If you missed this year's Hat Extravaganza, you missed a real treat. The Red Hat Society from Greensboro was present with about 10 other participants. Nancy was this year's "People's Choice" for Ambassador and Sister Fogg is our "We CARE" 2006 Hat Queen! The ladies were serenaded by The Woodland Chapel Male Chorus and The Eagle Rock Male Chorus. And Theresa Watkins was a gracious host, as we knew she would be. A late lunch of chicken salad along with the garnishings, pasta salad and crackers, a beautiful cake and delicious punch  concluded our fellowship gathering. In 30 days or less the names of Alvarada Walters, Tim Harris and Micheal Faulkner will be added to the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America Memorial Page.

Thanks for your support and prayers. Please continue to support traditional gospel music and events.

As a result of  hurricane “Katrina”, the opportunity presented itself where we could be the "Hands of God" and make a difference in assisting  Hurricane Katrina victors housed in our locale. Thus, “We CARE Promotions presented an "After the Storm Has Passed"  Benefit Concert on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005 at 7:00 pm at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church, 237 Friendship Chapel Church Road, Wake Forest, NC, which is also the local Donor Drop Off Center, where Dr. Enoch E. Holloway, Pastor.

We asked and recieved the support of  the community  with monetary donations, toiletries, bottled water, household furnishings and necessities as we partnered with Friendship Chapel to setup a home for The Wilkens Family. The Wilkens family has come to Raleigh as a result of “Katrina” destruction to their home. We were delighted they were able to be with us on Friday night at this benefit service. Because of God, his children and the support and love of concerned citizens The Wilkens family were able to receive help via monetary donations and needed items Friday, Sept 16. We publicly thank all that contributed to this great cause. It was a real challenge, but one that we recognize as being well worth the effort. This benefit was spearheaded by “We CARE Promotions and in one week generated $1259 for this cause. We CARE thanks everyone that prayed, rendered service and supported this effort with your attendance and relief resources.
